Staff Sgt. Christopher F. Cabacoy of Virginia Beach, Virginia graduated in 1997 from Tallwood High School before studying engineering at Old Dominion University. He also attended Princess Anne High School. He was lovable, never gave us any problems growing up, charming and full of smiles. Most memorable about him is probably his reputation as a jokester and his amazing sense of humor. The son of Carmelita and Dennis Cabacoy joined the Army in March of 2000 and arrived to Fort Drum October 2009. Chris was deployed to Afghanistan in the spring of 2010 where he served as cavalry scout. He was previously deployed to Iraq from January 2004 to January 2005. His awards and decorations include, the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, 3 Army Commendation Medals, 2 Army Achievement Medals, 3 Army Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, 2 Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, and US Army Recruiter Badge. He died at age 30 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He leaves his wife, Tami, his son, Aidan, a brother, Paolo J. Cabacoy, his parents and his grandfather, Pedro Cabacoy. Christopher was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church of Virginia Beach
