April 22nd, 2010

Born: May 14, 2024 in Fall River, Massachusetts
Died: April 19, 2024 in Kabul, Afghanistan

Sgt. Robert J. Barrett of Fall River, Massachusetts was a 2007 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School where he was a member of the ROTC serving as the cadet executive officer during his senior year. The son of Paul and Carlene Barrett arrived in Afghanistan on March 16, 2010. Upon his completion of his currant tour, Robert had planned to become either a firefighter or an EMT. Growing up, Rob knew a little something about serving his country as the son of a disabled Army veteran of the Vietnam War. And he was eager to do his part by showing the people of Afghanistan what it was like to live in a free society. Just over a year earlier, he had served at the inauguration of President Barack Obama as a member of the Massachusetts National Honor Guard’s volunteer regiment. In addition to his parents, he leaves behind a daughter, Sophie and a sister, Rebecca. He died at age 20 in Kabul, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when a suicide bomber attacked his unit.
