Sgt. Jeremy R. Summers of Mount Olivet, Kentucky joined the Army in March of 2005 arriving at Fort Campbell in August 2009 serving as a fire support specialist. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korea Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal; and Combat Action Badge. He died at age 27 in Paktika province, Afghanistan, after enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire on Jul. 13. He leaves his parents, Kenneth M. “Mike” and Laura Fowler Summers, a brother, Austin Hunter Summers and a sister, Jessica Elizabeth Summers.
