Died: June 20, 2024 in Ghazni, Afghanistan

Sgt. James W. Harvey II of Toms River, New Jersey died at age 23 in Ghazni province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox, Ky. Jimmy graduated in 2005 from Arthur L. Johnson High School and had been serving in the Army since January 2009, arriving at Fort Knox the following July. He was serving his first combat tour. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart posthumously. He leaves his parents, James S. and Susan L. Cummings Harvey, and three sisters, Christine Douglas, Robin Raffaele and Tracey Harvey.

Burial is at St Anne’s Cemetery in Wall Township, New Jersey
