Petty Officer Dominique M. Cruz, 26, of Panama City, Florida, formerly of Cleveland, Mississippi is a 2003 Cleveland High School. ‘Nique’ loved to dance and a couple of her favorite music artists were Alicia Keys and Lil Wayne. She enlisted in the United States Navy in June of 2006, and was assigned to the Halsey the following December. Her job title on the ship was operations specialist, which means she worked in the destroyer’s combat information center, an operation that provides an electronic picture of the area for the ship. The Halsey departed for a regular deployment in September 2010. On January 18, Dominique did not report for watch duty at her duty station. An unsuccessful search of the ship to locate her. The following day, she was found during search and rescue operations in the Gulf of Oman. Cruz was assigned as an Operations Specialist to the USS Halsey homeported in San Diego, Calif. The Halsey is currently deployed to the Fifth Fleet area of responsibility conducting maritime security operations. She leaves her parents, James and Ruth Stewart, seven brothers and five sisters.
