Lance Cpl. Nickolas A. Daniels, 25, of Elmwood Park, Ill., died Nov. 5 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Twentynine Palms, Calif. Among his awards and decorations are, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
