Lance Cpl Jabari N. Thompson

Lance Cpl. Jabari N. Thompson, 22, of Brooklyn, N.Y., died July 17 of wounds sustained July 13 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He joined the Marine Corps in January 2008 and was promoted to lance corporal in March, 2009. He had had previously served on a mission to Haiti and was deployed to Afghanistan in February 2011. His awards include, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He was serving as a machine gunner.
