Pfc Gil Isai Morales Del Valle

Died: August 3, 2024 in Wardak, Afghanistan

Pfc. Gil I. Morales Del Valle of Jacksonville, Florida joined the United States Army in February of 2010. After training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he arrived at Fort Polk in June of 2010. He deployed with his unit the following October in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His awards and decorations include, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the NATO Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Isai died at age 21 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He leaves his mother and stepfather, Gladys Del Valle and Renes Perez, his father, Gil E. Morales, his sister, Kiara Crystal Perez, longtime girlfriend, Narim Alim among others.

Spc Jordan C. Schumann

Died: July 5, 2024 in Paktia, Afghanistan

Spc. Jordan C. Schumann Port Saint Lucie, Florida died at age 24 in Paktia province, Afghanistan of injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, Hohenfels, Germany. He is a 2006 graduate of St. Lucie West Centennial High School. In 2008, he received his EMT certification from Brevard Community College. Jordan was married and the couple were expecting their first child in September 2011. Also killed were Army Spc. Preston J. Suter and Army Staff Sgt. Joshua A. Throckmorton. He leaves his wife Sarah Schumann, his parents, Clay and Linda Schumann, a brother, Clay Schumann, Jr, and a sister, Heather Goldsmith.

Staff Sgt Robert Steven Martin O’Neill

Born: July 11, 2024 in Landstuhl, Germany
Died: June 25, 2024 in Ormond Beach, Florida

Staff Sgt Robert S. O’Neill of Barksdale Air Force Base Shreveport, Louisiana, formerly of Florida graduated in 2005 from Flagler Palm Coast High School and immediately joined the United States Air Force for a six year enlistment. After basic training he entered a technical school for security forces. Robert became a dedicated Non-Commissioned Officer rising through the ranks to become a Staff Sergeant. Robert worked various jobs within his security field, ultimately ending in law enforcement. He is credited with saving three lives in three years and making 23 arrests of poachers and other environmental criminals. He also did a six month deployment to Iraq. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He volunteered for blood drives, food banks, homeless shelters and handicap hunter access. Robert never stopped caring and did an outstanding job displaying character, faith and loyalty. A family statement reads: “Robert was a wonderful and considerate son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle and friend. Robert was a hero to some, a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all”. Robert is survived by his father, Steven M. O’Neill and Catherine M. Horecky, two brothers, Christian and Daniel Reusch, niece, Christina L. Giehl; grandmother, Hilde Elbeck and uncle Marvin Elbeck all of Landstuhl, Germany; Uncle Bobby O’Neill and wife Lynne of New York, NY; aunts, Christine Pageau of Port Orange, FL and JoEllen Pearson and her husband Mike of Norfolk, VA; several cousins, nieces and a nephew. Robert was predeceased by his mother, Elisabeth D. O’Neill and brother Jens Reusch.

Burial is at Craig Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens in Flagler Beach, Florida

1st Lt Dimitri A. Del Castillo

1st. Lt. Dimitri A. Del Castillo, 24, of Tampa, Fla died June 25, at Kunar province, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their units with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Dimitri is a 2005 graduate of Taylor High School in Katy and a graduate of The United States Military Academy. He was engaged to be married in May 2012 to a fellow graduate of the U.S. Military Academy. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal,Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal and the NATO Medal. He leaves his wife, Katie, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carlos E. Del Castillo, his brother, Carlos Andres and a sister Anna.

Sgt Marlon E. Myrie

Born: December 17, 2024 in Kingston, Jamaica
Died: June 25, 2024 in Helmand, Afghanistan

Sgt. Marlon E. Myrie of Oakland Park, Florida is a graduate of Fort Lauderdale Northeast High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps in August 2004 and was promoted to sergeant on May 1, 2010. Known by his family as Troy, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom twice. The first deployment was from August 2005 to March 2006 and from January to August 2007. Most recently he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in January of 2011. His awards include two Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, three Iraq Campaign Medals, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a NATO Medal – ISAF Afghanistan. He leaves his wife, Maria Myrie, a son, Kareem and his mother, Yvette Myrie. He died at age 25 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Spc Marcos A. Cintron-Torres

Died: June 16, 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts

Spc. Marcos A. Cintron of Orlando, Florida joined the United States Army in February of 2010 serving as a cannon crew member. The 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team deployed to Iraq in November of 2010, and served as the 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, supporting the development of Iraq Security Forces and the improvement of civil capacity in central Iraq. He died at age 32 at a medical facility in Boston, Massachusetts of wounds suffered June 6 at Baghdad, Iraq, when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire. He is the sixth soldier to die from a June 6 attack that also took the lives of Spc. Emilio Campo, Pfc. Michael Cook, Pfc. Christopher Fishbeck, Spc. Robert Hartwick, and Pfc. Michael Olivieri. Spc Cintron had been medically evacuated from Iraq following the attack where he died in a Boston medical facility.

Pvt Lamarol J. Tucker

Pvt. Lamarol J. Tucker of Gainesville, Florida entered the Army in January 2009. He served at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri before arriving at Alaska’s Fort Wainwright. He died at age 26 of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit using an improvised explosive device in Zabul province, Afghanistan.

Spc. Brian D. Riley Jr., 24, of Longwood, Fla., died May 15, in Kunar province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He lived in Binghamton, New York, attending Binghamton High School before he moved to Florida in 2004. In Altamonte Springs, Florida, he attended Lake Brantley High School. He joined the army in 2008 as an Infantryman. His awards and decorations include, the Army Commendation Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

Sgt. Amaru Aguilar Borgen of Miami, Florida joined the United States Army shortly after graduating from South Miami Senior High School in 2003. He was currently serving his third deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also served two tours of duty in Iraq. He died at age 26 at Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his unit encountered small arms fire.
