Capt Jonathan Jesse Shively

Capt Jonathan J. Shively of Columbia, South Carolina was the youngest of four children of Jon Howard Shively and Fay Brunson Shively. At age eleven he moved with his family to Jamestown, South Carolina from California. Jonathan was graduate of Macedonia High School where he played football, before graduating from Charleston Southern University. He was currently enrolled back at the University in the MBA program and was a programmer for the Computer Science Corporation. He began his military career in September of 2000 as a Canon Field Specialist. He later realized his desire to be an officer and a pilot. On October 20, 2005, he received his commission in order to assume his career as an officer. During his career, he participated in many training exercises and attended any training available in order to further his military education. His first assignment as a 2nd Lieutenant was the position as a Liaison Officer in the HHC/51st Aviation Group. On January 24, 2008, Jonathan was assigned to the Battalion, 1-151st as the Liaison Officer in HHC upon his return from flight school. On September 23, 2008, he was transferred to Charlie Company, 1-151st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion as a Platoon Leader and an AH-64 Apache Pilot. Jon was devoted to his family and had an adventurous side. He enjoyed playing computer games and most any type of game or gaming system. He also loved Star Wars, the San Diego Chargers and the Clemson Tigers and skiing. He died at age 33 when his AH-64 Apache helicopter rolled over while taxiing in from training. He leaves his mother Fay, his father, Jon, and his wife, Carla, his fiancé, Diana Cotter, a sister, Renee, two brothers, John J. “Jay” Matkovich, III, and Staff Sgt. Walter L. “Wally” Matkovich.
