TSgt TereseAnn Lynch of the Iowa Air National Guard was the daughter of Tim and Shelia (Richards) Lynch. She grew up in the Garner and Duncan areas, graduating from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1998. TereseAnn attended Kirkwood College and graduated from North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City and obtained her bachelor’s degree in child, adult and family services from Iowa State in 2003. Growing up in the small town atmosphere of Iowa, there was one thing that brought her whole family together and that was the weekly family gatherings at the home of the grandparents in Seneca, Iowa. The grandparents were the glue that held them together, and when they died, it was difficult for everyone. As adults with careers and families of their own, those former weekly gatherings were missed. Family, along with serving as a technical sergeant in the Iowa Air National Guard, was always in TereseAnn’s heart. A family history of military service helped support her choice to serve in the IANG. She served three tours of duty overseas, most recently coming in 2008 when she was deployed to Iraq. As a civilian, she worked in the field of family services for 10 years, most recently for the Department of Human Services in Des Moines. In the summer of 2009, she gave birth to her only child, a son, whom she found to be a source of strength. TereseAnn was a committed runner and camping with friends always brought her joy. But with a little one to care for, she had a new priority in her life. On November 11, 2009, TereseAnn was murdered, a victim of domestic violence. She was laid to rest next to her cherished grandparents in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bancroft, Iowa.
