Staff Sgt. Eric T. Duckworth of Plano, Texas began his senior year at Plano East High School but later graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1999. He excelled in JROTC and was selected to attend a national ROTC meeting for outstanding leaders. As a young boy he played youth baseball and football, but he was always a fan. The son of Michael Duckworth and Ila Duckworth enlisted in the Army soon after graduation at age 18. He was currently serving his first deployment to Iraq, which began in August 2006 and would have ended in November 2007. He loved sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR. Among his awards and decoration are the Army Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sonya, and his children, Madison, Michael and Kaylynn and a brother, Andrew. He died at age 26 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
