Staff Sgt. Marshall Caddy of Nags Head, North Carolina, enjoyed living the life of a beach bum, surfing, working odd jobs and hanging out with friends. But he wanted more, so he enlisted in the Army for four years, then another six. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Hertford and was a 1996 graduate of Manteo High School. He entered the US Army Aug. 6, 1997 and served for seven years and three months. His military schooling included Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, Primary Leadership Development Course, Combat Lifesavers Course and the Javelin Leaders Course. His awards and decorations include: the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Korean Defense Service Medal. He also received two National Defense Service Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He formerly worked with Seamark Foods and Cavalier Surf Shop. He was 27.
