Staff Sgt Eric James Lindstrom
Staff Sgt Eric J. Lindstrom of Flagstaff, Arizona graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1999. Growing up, he was active in Boy Scout Troop #33 and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed playing baseball. Eric joined the Army in 1999 at age 17 and completed basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, then spent two years in Schweinfurt, Germany with a mortar company before transferring to Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was with the invasion into Sadr City, Baghdad, Iraq in 2003. After four years in the Army including one tour of duty in Iraq, he returned home to become a Flagstaff Police Department officer. After four years with the department, he returned to the Army in 2003 arriving at Fort Drum in October 2007. He was subsequently sent to Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, and Air Assault Badge. Eric died at age 27 of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his dismounted patrol using small arms and indirect fire. He married the love of his life, Tara Fantetti, in July of 2007 and loved her and their twin daughters, Riley and Olivia above all else. Their twins were born one week after he deployed to Afghanistan and he was able to come home to be with them for two weeks while they were still in the hospital. He was a member of the Federated Community Church. In addition to his wife a two daughters, Eric is survived by his mother Kathy, his father Ric, step-brother Jake, and grandmother Mary O’Hara.
