Spc. Ross E. Vogel, III of Red Lion, Pennsylvania attended Red Lion High School. As a young boy he wore his hair long and didn’t seem to fear much of anything. One of his sisters recalled Ross jumping in the family pool at night to look for frogs before the others would jump in. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Ross had been in the Army since 2001, following in the footsteps of a brother who was serving in the Air Force. After six years he re-enlisted with ambitions of making the Army a career. Ross loved what he was doing and felt he had his life planned out. He married, Kristen, whom he met in technical school and the couple have two children. The young family had finally made it home for Christmas in 2008 for the first time since he began his military career seven years earlier. His siblings and parents were thrilled to have them all home for the holiday. Ross worked at Fort Gordon as a switch system operator. He was currently serving his third deployment and had been there less than a month. He was in the process of being promoted. Ross was married and has two children.
