Spc Joseph Alan Kennedy

Died: April 15, 2011 in Helmand, Afghanistan
Spc. Joseph A. Kennedy of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota died at age 25 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox, Ky. Joseph is a 2004 graduate of Simley High School where he wrestled junior varsity for two years in the 135-140 pound weight class. He joined the Army in 2009 and deployed overseas in January 2011. His awards include, the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He was posthumously awarded, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart.
Burial is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota – Sec 30 Site 2680
