Spc. Christopher J. Moon of Tucson, Arizona attended Tucson High School where he was a star baseball pitcher and outfielder. Chris was the 2006 Southern Arizona Player of the Year and earned a full scholarship to the University of Arizona. But after a brief time, Chris gave all that up to enlist in the United States Army. He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in September of 2009. His Awards and Decorations include, the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Basic Parachutist Badge. Chris died at age 20 at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device on July 6 in Arghandab, Afghanistan. Chris was the 12th Navajo Nation serviceman killed while serving in either Iraq or Afghanistan. He leaves his parents, Brian and Marsha Moon and a sister, Sunday.
