Sgt. Patrick Christopher Hawkins

Born: October 1, 1988 Died October 6, 2013 in Afghanistan Sgt. Patrick C. Hawkins, 25, of Carlisle, Pa., died Oct. 6, in Zhari District, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Ga. Hawkins had been deployed to Afghanistan four times. His awards and decorations include, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Parachutist Badge, and the U.S. Army Expert Rifle Marksmanship Qualification Badge. Hawkins has also been awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation. Hawkins was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and a Purple Heart, Fort Benning officials said. Hawkins is survived by his wife and parents.
