Sgt Kendell Kioma Frederick
Born: August 17, 1984 in Trinidad And Tobago
Died: October 19, 2005 in Tikrit, Iraq
Sgt. Kendell K. Frederick of Randallstown, Maryland was born in Trinidad and had been in the United States about six years. In 2003 he graduated from Randallstown High School where he was an exceptional student, standing out as having a strong academic ability, model behavior and an athletic skills that he displayed on the school soccer team. Kendell also joined the Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps as a freshman participating all four years, eventually rising to the rank of chief petty officer before graduating. He looked forward to joining the military and most were not surprised when he decided in his junior year to pursue a career in the Army. Matured now as a focused, thoughtful and capable young man, he thrived in military life and loved the leadership, but not the war. And after 10 months in Iraq, he had lost some of that enthusiasm he had started out with. Just three weeks before his death he was home on leave and spent time with old friends and visited cadets at his former high school Junior Navy ROTC program, where had once been a platoon commander. He had come home from troubling experiences in Iraq, including enduring the death of comrades. Although he was scared, he returned to Iraq because he loved the Army and believed in doing his duty. At the time of his death at age 21 he was pursuing a United States citizenship. An improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during convoy operations Tikrit, Iraq. Upon his burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Kendell was awarded American citizenship. He leaves his mother and stepfather, Michelle and Kenmore Murphy, his father, Peter Ramsahai, and his siblings Kennisha, Kendra and Kwesi.
