Sgt. Amy Krueger was from Kiel, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Jeri (nee Rief) Krueger and David Diem. Amy graduated from Kiel High School in 1998 and began her higher education at The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan. On September 11, 2001 she and a friend watched as the second airplane crashed into the second World Trade Center building. The next day they both enlisted in the United States Army. Amy said, “Anything it takes, anything our country needs me for, even if it means giving my life.” Amy’s mother told her, “You can’t take on Bin Laden all by yourself.” What was Amy’s response? “Watch me!” After basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri she was stationed in San Antonio, Texas were she graduated as a Mental Health Specialist. In 2003 she was deployed to Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. She returned home in the summer of 2003 and then continued her schooling at UW Sheboygan, receiving an Associates Degree in Arts and Science. During that same period of time she also graduated from LTC’s EMT program and with honors from the CNA program at LTC. She was the first female member of the Kiel VFW Post 6707. In 2008, while pursuing her Bachelors Degree in Psychology at The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Amy volunteered for another mission to Afghanistan. On October 11, 2009 she left for that tour of duty. Before she left she got a tattoo, which read, “All Gave Some, Some Gave All. Sacrifice. Amy was currently at Ft. Hood, Texas preparing for deployment in mid December. Amy’s life was taken during the tragic event that occurred at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009. She was buried in Schleswig Cemetery in Rockville, Wisconsin.
