Sgt. 1st Class Matthew B. Thomas, 30, Travelers Rest, S.C., died June 20, in Khowst province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire and an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 133rd Military Police Company, 51st Military Police Battalion, Florence, S.C. Known to friends and family as Brad, he attended Travelers Rest High School. He had been married for about two years and had a young son. Nine Forks Baptist Church Cemetery.
