Pfc. Michael C. Olivieri Chicago, Illinois died at age 26 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. Also killed were Army Spc. Christopher B. Fishbeck of Victorville, Calif., Spc. Michael B. Cook of Middletown, Ohio; and Spc Emilio J. Campo Jr. of Madelia, MN. Mikey is a 2002 graduate of Lockport High School. He joined the Army in January 2010 and was a field artillery tactical data systems operator.

Burial is at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois – Sec 10 Site 856

    To honor their son, the Olivieri family is directing donations to the Homer Township Public Library. The library is raising money for an expansion. It’s the family’s dream to see a silent reading room constructed there in Michael Olivieri’s name.

    His family wants to create a donor tree at the Homer Township Public Library in which other military families can honor their loved ones. In lieu of flowers or other contributions, they are seeking donations for the memorial reading room.
