Pfc Diego M. Montoya

Died: September 2, 2010 in Laghman, Afghanistan
Pfc. Diego M. Montoya, 20, of San Antonio, Texas attended Veterans Memorial High School in Mission his freshman year before graduating from William Howard Taft High School in San Antonio in 2008. While at Taft, he participated in the Reserves Officers Training Corps program for two years. He enlisted in the military in July of 2009 as a military policeman. His Awards and Decorations include, the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge. Diego deployed to Afghanistan in April of 2010. He leaves his parents, Steve and Rosie Guerra, and Michael W. Montoya, his eight brothers and sisters, Lisa Ybarra, Michelle Martinez, Daniz Montoya, Gabriela Montoya, Steven Guerra, Jessica Guerra, David Guerra, and Mark Guerra. He died at age 20 in Laghman province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with indirect fire.
