Pfc. Brandon Styer of Lancaster, Pennsylvania was a 2008 graduate of Conestoga Valley High School where he was on the high school wrestling and baseball teams. While in school he enjoyed learning the video production field. It was during his senior year that he enlisted in the Army and left for basic training the following autumn on September 16, 2008. An avid Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan, he also cheered for the Washington Redskins football team. Brandon had just recently customized his cherished Mazda RX8, a car he truly loved. Before he shipped out to Afghanistan in late September 2009 he stopped by to see several of his teachers. Brandon knew in high school that he wanted to serve in the military. It had been a long held dream of his. Brandon was a member of the Leola United Methodist Church, Leola, PA. As a teenager, he was an active member of the youth group. Brandon was also an avid animal lover, especially German Shepherds. In addition to his parents and step father, he is survived by his twin sister, Alyssa, sisters; Angela and Tracy; his maternal grandmother, Dawn Hertzog; an Aunt, Sheri Witmer, four nieces; Aleizae, Miaya, Lexie and Sierra, and a nephew, Joey. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Kenneth E. “Wit” Witmer in 2006. Brandon died at age 19 when a roadside bomb exploded in southern Afghanistan. Also killed were Spc. Jesus O. Flores Jr., Spc. Daniel C. Lawson and Staff Sgt. Glen H. Stivison Jr.
