Maj. Paul C. Voelke, 36, of Monroe, N.Y., died Jun. 22 in Mazar E. Sharif, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. He graduated from Monroe-Woodbury High School in 1994 and was also a 1998 graduate of West Point. Maj Voelke was currently in the middle of a nine-month deployment that began in February 2012. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan. He had also served two tours of duty in Iraq. Voelke has been in the Army for 14 years. Among his medals are, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, in addition to an Afghanistan Campaign Medal. U.S.M.A. Cemetery – Sec XXXIV Row AA Site 002
