Lance Cpl. Stephen L. Morris of Lake Jackson, Texas graduated from Brazoswood High School in 2004. He joined the Marines after graduating and arrived in Hawai’i that November for his first assignment. He eventually served in Afghanistan and then Iraq. He was a religious man who also loved to surf. He also loved to share his faith with his fellow soldiers in Iraq. He felt that it was his mission to teach his fellow soldiers about Jesus while he was in Iraq. Stephen was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson where you could often find him if he wasn’t surfing. The avid surfer had plans to go back to Hawaii after his enlistment was up. He died Christmas eve at age 21 in Al Anbar province while conducting combat operations in Iraq when a Humvee he was driving was hit by an improvised explosive device.
