Lance Cpl. Richard A. Perez Jr., of Las Vegas, Nevada moved with his family to Las Vegas from Denver in 2000. He attended Foothill High School where he played baseball before transferring to the newly opened Coronado High School in 2001 where he graduated in 2003. He enlisted with the Marine reserves shortly after he graduation. He was the first student from the new school to enlist in the Marines and that was something that made Rich extremely proud. Rich had hoped to play baseball for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He had been in Iraq since August 16 2004 driving supply trucks and had just 10 more days left on his deployment in Iraq. He had already shipped his personal belongings back to Las Vegas, and told his family on Super Bowl Sunday he couldn’t wait to end his six-month stint overseas. But the excited Marine didn’t make it. He was killed at age 19 when a truck accidentally rolled over him near Ramadi.
