Lance Cpl Norberto Mendez-Hernandez

Died July 10, 2011 in Helmand, Afghanistan

Lance Cpl. Norberto Mendez Hernandez of Logan, Utah is a 2007 graduate of Logan High School. Norbert understood the dangers of enlisting, but those who knew him also knew that once he set his mind to something, he would follow through with it. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 26, 2010 and was serving his first combat deployment. His personal service awards include, the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Select Marine Corps Reserve Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Nato-ISAF Medal. He died at age 22 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
