Died: August 18, 2010 in Helmand, Afghanistan.

Lance Cpl. Kevin E. Oratowski of Wheaton, Illinois graduated in 2005 from Glenbard South High School where he stayed under the radar his freshman year as a shy teen, but within four years he emerged as a leader who was always willing to help others. Growing up, he enjoyed playing video games with his brother and kept a lifelong passion for basketball. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 23, 2008, and was currently serving his first combat deployment. Determined and sometimes stubborn, ‘Ski’ had emerged as a proud marine as well as a man whom his family became even more proud of. His Awards and Decorations include, the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Kevin deployed to Afghanistan on March 1, 2010 and was scheduled to return in November of 2010. He leaves his parents, Stephen and Mary, sister, Carrie, brother, Michael. He was preceded by his twin sister Avy. He died at age 23 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was conducting mounted combat operations against enemy forces when a roadside bomb blast occurred.
