Lance Cpl Franklin Alan Sweger
Lance Cpl Franklin A. Sweger of San Antonio, Texas graduated from MacArthur High School. He was shorter than most of his peers, but that didn’t stop him. For some, they thought of him as a big brother. Franklin joined the Marines Corps in the spring of 2001 after having trouble in his first semester at Lamar University. He was a bright student with a penchant for chemistry and math, but he realized he wasn’t quite ready. His plan was to go back to school to study chemistry after completing his military obligations. At a young age he developed a love for science and studied chemistry on his own. He would write down the definitions for everything. Franklin’s father said he was always a handful and that it was tough to slow him down. So his nickname given to him by his dad was, “Little Thunder.” He was also known for his smile and encouraging words and was devoted to his family, and even looked forward to starting one of his own someday. He leaves his mother and stepfather, Susie and Steven Hernandez. his father and stepmother, Frank Arnold and Becky Sweger, and two brothers, Steven and Joseph. He was killed at age 24 by enemy action in Anbar province, Iraq. He was posthumously awarde the Purple Heart.
