Lance Cpl. Adam Q. Emul of Vancouver, Washington graduated in 2005 from Hudson’s Bay High in Vancouver, after moving there in 2003 from Saipan. He lived with his mom in Washington throughout his schooling. A typical teenager, he enjoyed playing basketball and listening to music. After graduation, Adam joined the United States Marines, and after basic and advanced training he deployed in Iraq in September 2006. No one in his family wanted him to enlist, but he told them it was something that he wanted to do. While in Iraq, he would ask his family to send candy for him to pass out to the Iraqi children that he met. Adam was expected to return stateside in March of 2007 and he was looking to taking a vacation to Saipan to visit family who was still there. He died at age 19 from wounds received while conducting combat operations in Anbar province, Iraq. He leaves his parents, Angelica Quitugua and Wayne Emul, three sisters, Maryann, Clarissa Mendiola and Mindy Quitugua, and two brothers, Frankie and Christopher Quitugua. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Mendiola.
