Lance Cpl Daniel F Swaim of Yadkinville, North Carolina is the only child of Michael and Rebecca Tise Swaim. He graduated from Forbush High School where as an honor student he was a member of the National Honor Society. He joined the Marine Corps in 2004 after graduating and began his first tour of duty in Iraq in August of 2005. As a kid who knew a little something about survival skills, it seemed fitting that he had always wanted to be a Marine. The day Daniel died marked the 230th anniversary of the creation of the Marine Corps. The following day was Veterans Day. He died at age 19 of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces during Operation Steel Curtain in Karabilah, Iraq.
