Cpl. Stephen P. Johnson of Covina, California was the middle child of three. He attended Yreka High School before joining the Marine Corps in 2001. Stephen had a special interest in being a part of liberating the people of Iraq because his grandmother, Patricia Crawford is from Iraq. He deployed to Iraq in September 2004 to serve his first tour. He’s already been in the Marines for four years and had recently re-enlisted. He was looking forward to coming home and taking a post as a drill instructor at Camp Pendleton soon. Stephen loved entertaining his friends and family with his impressions. He could do Jim Carrey as well as others. The Mike Myers’ characters in the “Austin Powers” films was one of his favorites to do. By all accounts, Stephen was a good father. In addition to his wife, Kelsey and his son, Tyler, he leaves his mother and sisters Megan and Kari and two half brothers. He was killed at age 24 killed when the CH-53E helicopter he was in crashed near Rutbah, Iraq. Also killed was Marine Lance Cpl. Fred L. Maciel.
