Cpl. Richard A. Rivera Jr
Cpl. Richard A. Rivera Jr., 20 of Ventura, Calif., died Aug. 10 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force. Also killed were Marine Staff Sgt. Scott E. Dickinson, 29, of San Diego and Marine Lance Cpl. Gregory T. Buckley, 21, of Oceanside, N.Y. Rivera was a supply noncommissioned officer serving in theater as a logistics and facilities adviser. Rivera was a supply noncommissioned officer with Headquarters Company, 3rd Marine Regiment and was deployed as a logistics and facilities adviser, also as part of the advisory team. His personal awards include Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and NATO International Security Assistance Force Afghanistan Medal.
