Cpl Michael Anthony Estrella

Cpl. Michael A. Estrella of Hemet, California is a 2003 graduate of Hemet High School where he spent two years in the Reserves Officer’s Training Corps program as a flight commander in charge of 30 other cadets. His job was to kelp other cadets learn and develop leadership qualities. The eldest of six, he was well liked and well respected by his peers and the staff at school. His great-grandfather, Victor Gonzalez Sr., had served in the United States Army during World War II, and Michael also wanted to serve his country. He leaves his parents, Maria and Francisco, five brothers and sisters, including, Francisco, Jessica, and Sasha. His Awards and Decorations include, the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment ribbon. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart. He died at age 20 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq.
