Cpl. Joseph P. Bier of Centralia, Washington is the son of Carol and Wayne Bier. Joe was so passionate about serving his country he couldn’t wait to get to Iraq. He grew up with stories of biblical heroes fighting foes and protecting the weak, with his mother whispering in his ear “this is what Marines do.” In a letter his family wrote: “Joe was a challenging child to raise because he was always trying to live to his potentials and occasionally beyond them.” Joseph died at age 22 from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Ar Ramadi, Iraq.
