Born: September 27, 1983 in South Kingstown, Rhode Island
Died: June 23, 2005 in Fallujah, Iraq
Cpl. Holly A. Charette of Cranston, Rhode Island was a daughter of Edward T. and Regina Wheetman Roberts and father, Raymond Charette. She was a 2001 graduate of Cranston High School East, where she played four years on the field hockey team and was a cheerleader for the Varsity hockey team. She completed a half year of college at CCRI before entering the Marine Corps following the events of September 11. Holly wanted to become a Marine and serve her country. While in Iraq, she served as a mail clerk and brought smiles to many faces during her time with the unit. Everyone knew her smiling face and she at least knew everyone by name since she sorted literally tens of thousands of pieces of mail. There were times when she would even make special deliveries if a Marine or Sailor was expecting a package. Holly loved to dance and have fun and always made time for kids in her life. She expressed that she eventually wanted to become a child psychologist. In addition to her parents, Holly is survived by her fiancee, Alex Rodriguez, three brothers, Raymond, Edward, and Jared T. Roberts, her grandparents, Anna Courtemanche, Cyril Wheetman and Lois and Gerry May. She was killed at age 21 when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near her convoy vehicle in Fallujah, Iraq.
