Cpl. Aaron D. Gautier of Hampton, Virgina attended Bethel High School before he enrolled in a GED class. Earning his diploma at age 17 he showed up at his father’s office with an Army recruiter. Aaron wanted him to sign papers giving him permission to enlist. His father didn’t want to do it, but knew that Aaron was going to enlist in a few months once he reached legal age. He did his training in Georgia and was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division based at Fort Lewis. In January 2007 he married Lindsey. He enjoyed videogames, music and NASCAR. Aaron enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two little sisters. In High School he was a member of the Army JROTC unit. Aaron found enjoyment in the smallest things in life, and was quick to find friendship in everyone he encountered. He is survived by his wife, Lindsey, his mother Tina Houchins and step-dad Donald “Bubba”, father Daniel Gautier and wife Tracy; in-laws, Matt and Debbie Kozma, grandparents, Daniel and Teresa Richey, Brian and Dottie Coleman, Ken and Pat Lenorman, step-grandmother, Saundra Mayes, great-grandfather, Ray Grieve, two sisters, Tricia and Alexis. Aaron was killed just five weeks into his first tour of duty in Iraq at age 19.
