No one has left a comment so I will. I know it seems strange to write to you but I guess you can say that this is therapy. It's been years now but I remember everything like it was yesterday. Sometimes I wish I could forget. I am so proud to have served with you and would trade places if I could. I love that your picture shows me in the background. Watch over all of us down here and put in a good word with the big man upstairs for me. Till we meet again my friend.

As a marine who served in Viet Nam, I say God bless the Freeman family. Remember this: It was written long ago that "the bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike; and yet, notwithstanding, go out to meet it." And when asked who will defend us, each will answer "Here I am -- send me."

A solder that is not far
Do not stand at my grave and weep
For I'm always with you,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am ...the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry, I'm here!
Here in your hearts

Death, be not proud

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

Hi-I don't know him personally yet have a son with aspergers who has done cub scouts (and boy scouts). I am also in the air force reserves (services) and was up at Dover Port Mortuary when he came through. As a mother (not military), he somehow touched me-he and many others who fought so bravely for our country. I sensed that there was definitely something special about him when he was alive. I also have a daughter in high school who is a big video game fan. Somehow, I was thinking that he is young enough to be my son. I came home a few days later and in church, prayed for him and his family. I know it is difficult to lose your child-I am a mother, too. I was in grade school when the vietnam war ended. I somehow wanted you to know that Michael even post-humously (can't spell that word) have touched me deeply. Rest-assured, all the troops are treated with utmost respect from start to finish and I see him as an angel looking out for others on the battle field-and boy scouts :). I just wanted to write to say that Michael and his family (and other troops in harm's way) are in my prayers, and may the Good Lord bring comfort to his family during their time of sorrow. I can relate a little bit-I lost both my mom and sister from cancer. I know how painful it is to lose someone close to you (I was extremely close to my sister and mom) yet in time, and it took some time, his family will once again smile at their memories. May he rest in peace-I pray for him and his family, and God Bless-laura
