Chief Warrant Officer Earl R. Scott III of Mandarin, Florida graduated from Mandarin High School in 2004. Prior to enlisting in the United States Army in 2006, ‘Scotty’ had a landscaping business, and had been taking aviation classes at Florida Community College. The son of Earl R. Jr. and Sandra Scott joined the Army in March of 2006 and moved to Schofield Barracks in May of 2008 where he served as an OH-58D pilot. His Awards and Decorations include, the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with one Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Army Aviator Badge. Scotty always set very high goals for himself and had an adventurous spirit. He enjoyed spending his time camping, fishing, surfing, kite surfing, and had a devout passion for flying. He was currently serving his second deployment to Iraq. Scotty and his brother, William, began riding four wheelers at a young age. Scotty advanced to dirt bikes and went on to purchase himself a Harley Night Train while stationed in Hawaii. He is survived by his father, Earl Scott Jr., mother, Sandra Scott and brother, William, a girlfriend, Tara, and his grandparents, Earl R. Scott, Sr., Dolores Scott, Ret. U.S. Navy Commander William Dean Mallinger. CWO Scott died at age 24 in Tikrit, Iraq, of injuries sustained when their OH-58D helicopter crashed. Also killed was Chief Warrant Officer Mathew C. Heffelfinger.
