Sgt. 1st Class Coater B. DeBose

Sgt. 1st Class Coater B. DeBose, 55, of State Line, Miss., died Aug. 19 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan. Debose was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 351st Infantry Regiment, 158th Infantry Brigade, 1st Army Division East, Camp Shelby, Miss. Sgt. 1st Class Debose was a communications specialist assigned to 2-351st Infantry Regiment, 158th Infantry Brigade, and First Army Division East. He was deployed to assist and train Afghan uniformed police in and around the Kandahar province. According to the Department of Defense, 1st Class Debose was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He was also a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004-2005. Biloxi National Cemetery

Master Sgt. Scott E. Pruitt

Master Sgt. Scott E. Pruitt, 38, of Gautier, Miss., died April 28 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Scott graduated in 1992 from Pascagoula High School. He joined the Marine Corps in June 1993 and was a financial analyst, according to officials at Camp Pendleton. Pruitt became a master sergeant in January 2010, and was listed as the comptroller chief for the I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group. His enlistment was scheduled to end in June 2013. He was engaged to be married. Among his awards are the Purple Heart, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.

Burial is at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia – Sec 60 Site 10091

Sgt. 1st Class Billy A. Sutton of Mooreville, Miss., died at age 42 in Uruzgan province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 223rd Engineer Battalion, 168th Engineer Brigade, Mississippi National Guard, West Point, Miss. He joined the Mississippi National Guard on September 5, 2002. He leaves his wife, Traci Sutton, to whom he married Nov. 6, 1998, his son, Tyler Durham, his mother, Jo Ann Owen Sutton Starling (Elvis), his in laws, Dan and Jennifer Loden Durham, his grandfather in law, Homer Loden of Tupelo, a brother: Danny Sutton, two half brothers, Vance Sutton and Aaron Starling, three half sisters, Adrian Starling, Erica Culver and Cindy Starling.

Lance Cpl. Edward J. Dycus of Greenville, Mississippi died at age 22 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He graduated from Riverside High in 2008. He entered boot camp in 2010 and had been in Afghanistan just a few months.

Petty Officer Stacy O. Johnson

Died: July 18, 2011 in Manana, Bahrain

Petty Officer Stacy O. Johnson, 35, of Rolling Fork, Miss., died July 18, while supporting operations in Bahrain. Johnson was a master-at-arms assigned to Naval Security Force Bahrain. Petty Officer Johnson of San Diego, California, formerly of Hollandale, Mississippi attended Central Texas College. Known as ‘The Bone’, he was a member of New Breed Black Sabbath Motorcycle Club of San Diego. Master-at-Arms 1st Class (AW) Johnson reported for recruit training in November 1993, according to personnel records. He served on the amphibious ships Ogden and Peleliu, and the carrier Nimitz. He also served in Texas and Hawaii, but spent most of his career in San Diego. He reported to Naval Security Force Bahrain in September 2010 after spending a year at Region Southwest Security Detachment San Diego. He died while serving active Navy duty, as a result of a motorcycle accident in Bahrain.

Sgt. Christopher R. Bell, 21, of Golden, Mississippi graduated from Tremont High School. In 2008 in joined the United States Army and served at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri before arriving in Alaska in January of 2009. His awards include, the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal, NATO Medal, and Combat Action Badge, posthumously. He was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat and Special Skill Badge Basic Markmanship Qualification Badge and Overseas Service Bar. He died at age 21 of wounds suffered in Laghman province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He leaves his wife, Samantha, a daughter Lana, his parents Timothy and Barbara Bell, and two brothers Zachary and Timothy Joseph Bell.
