Sgt. Nicholas M. Dickhut
Sgt. Nicholas M. Dickhut, 23, of Rochester, Minn., died April 30 in Zharay, Afghanistan, from wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. Dickhut graduated from Stewartville High School. He studied at Rochester Community and Technical College and worked as a supervisor at Office Max before enlisting in the Army. Prior to his tour of duty in Afghanistan, Dickhut also had served in Iraq from July through December of 2009. Dickhut’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
