Sgt. Timothy Douglas Sayne

Died: September 18, 2011 in Kandahar, Afghanistan

Sgt. Timothy D. Sayne of Effingham, Illinois graduated from Effingham High School. He joined the United States Army in 2008. He died at age 31 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 5th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. The son of Mary Kathy Even Sayne and Robert Sayne also leaves his wife, Thania, a son, Timothy Kalvin, two brothers, Cory and Joey Sayne, and a sister, Paige Huntington.

Burial is at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia – Sec 60 Site 9634

Sgt Andrew Robert Tobin

Died: August 24, 2011 in Kandahar, Afghanistan

Sgt. Andrew R. Tobin of Jacksonville, Illinois died at age 24 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit using small arms fire. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. He joined the Army in January 2008, and after completing training came to Fort Drum in June 2008. Sgt Tobin had previously deployed to Afghanistan from January to December 2009. He deployed with his unit again in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in March 2011. His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, two Certificates of Achievement, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Marksmanship Qualification Badge – Sharpshooter with Machinegun and the Marksmanship Qualification Badge – Sharpshooter with Pistol. He leaves his wife, Katie, his father, Nicholas D Tobin Sr., his mother, Lee Ann Smith and a brother, Nicholas D. Tobin Jr and wife Panita and their son Liam. In addition, Nicholas named his newborn son after Andrew. He was born just a few weeks after Andrew’s death.

Airman Megan JoAnne Victory

Died: June 30, 2011 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas

Airman Megan J. Victory of Albers, Illinois, formerly of Carlyle, Illinois was currently in basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She was a graduate of Carlyle High School class of 2007 and a student at Kaskaskia College where she joined the Air Force Reserves. She began basic training on May 11, 2011. Before leaving for basic training she worked at Unlimited Living Options in Breese. Megan died at age 22 at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She leaves her parents, Robert R. Victory and Missy Shirley, her siblings, Christopher Brickeen, Steven Shirley, Jerrid Shirley, Kristine Shirley, Haley Shirley, Devon Victory, Jerica Victory, Ambryn Shirley, and her world revolved around being the very best sister, Kylr Shirley could ever have.

Pfc Michael C. Olivieri

Pfc. Michael C. Olivieri Chicago, Illinois died at age 26 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. Also killed were Army Spc. Christopher B. Fishbeck of Victorville, Calif., Spc. Michael B. Cook of Middletown, Ohio; and Spc Emilio J. Campo Jr. of Madelia, MN. Mikey is a 2002 graduate of Lockport High School. He joined the Army in January 2010 and was a field artillery tactical data systems operator.

Spc Andrew P. Wade

Spc. Andrew P. Wade of Antioch, Illinois joined the United States Army in September of 2008. After completing training at Fort Benning, Georgia, Wade arrived to Fort Drum in New York in April of 2009. His unit deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Spring of 2010. His awards and decorations include, the NATO medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He leaves his parents, Elizabeth and Douglas Wade, a sister Alicia, two brothers, Steven and Jonathan Wade. He died at age 22 in Kunduz province, Afghanistan, as a result of a non-combat related incident.

Lance Cpl. Kenneth A. Corzine of Bethalto, Illinois attended Civic Memorial High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps on September 10, 2007. He was currently serving his first combat deployment. His awards and decorations include, the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He died at age 23 of wounds received Dec. 5 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He leaves his father, Kenneth, his mother, Carla, daughter, Macy,and a brother, Lance Cpl Nicholas Corzine, among others.

Lance Cpl James B. Stack

Died: November 10, 2010 in Helmand, Afghanistan

Lance Cpl. James B. Stack of Arlington Heights, Illinois was home schooled by his parents and was a National Champion Air pistol shooter in the 2008 Junior Olympics. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing at his grandfather’s farm in central Illinois. His interest in the military began at an early age. At eleven he joined the Arlington International Airgun Club. Through this experience, James earned a position on an Olympic development team, though it would be the military that James opted for. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 7, 2009 and was currently serving his first deployment. His service awards include, the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal. He leaves his wife, Katie, a daughter, Mikayla, and his parents, Linda and Robert Stack and a sister, Megan. He died at age 20 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt Jordan B. Emrick

Born: December 19, 1983 in in Centralia, Illinois
Died: November 5, 2010 in Helmand, Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Jordan B. Emrick of Hoyleton, Illinois is a 2002 graduate of Nashville Community High School. During his formative years he worked on a 3,000 acre family farm of a friend. The long hours and hard work showcased his dedication and commitment to work ethics. Jordan would milk cows, work in the fields and still had energy to get in a night of skiing at a local resort, and be back at work the next day ready to go again. Upon graduation from high school, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His decision to enlist was inspired by the events of September 11th. Prior to joining the military, Jordan expressed a desire in Pharmacy. He had previously served deployments to the Persian Gulf and in Iraq and was currently serving in Afghanistan. He was just three weeks into a seven month deployment. In addition to skiing, the avid skydiver also enjoyed sailing. He leaves his parents, Terry and Doris Seeger Emrick, a brother, Brandon, two sisters, Christi and Brittany. He died at age 26 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. SSgt Emrick posthumously received the Bronze Star.

Cpl James Chad Young

Died: November 3, 2010 in Kandahar, Afghanistan

Cpl. James C. Young of Rochester, Illinois is a 2003 graduate of Glenwood High School. Standing a lanky 6’4”, he had a great sense of humor, a playful personality, and sense of style all his own with his cut offs and piercings. Best known as, Chad, he joined the Army in 2004 and served in Korea. He returned home from his first tour in 2007. He began his second deployment to Afghanistan in June of 2010. He was last home on leave in late October 2010. He was trained as a combat engineer and parts of his deployments were spent in a special route-clearance vehicle called a Husky that would travel in front of a convoy and detonate or defuse land mines, explosives or other obstructions in the road. He leaves his parents, Jerry and Brett Ann Bowen Young, his sister, Katie, a brother, Steven Baptist, and a girlfriend, Maria Millburg. He died at age 25 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device.
