Sgt. Chris J. Workman, 33, of Boise, Idaho died April 19, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, when his Black Hawk (UH-60) crashed. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii. Chris is a 1997 graduate of Minico High School and 2003 graduate of Idaho State University. Following graduation he worked in an escrow business in Boise. When the economy fell out of real estate, he went to work as an auto glass repairman, something he had learned from his father at their family business in Rupert. He joined the service to provide a better living for his family and was always looking for ways to better himself.

Sgt. Daniel J. Brown, 27, of Jerome, Idaho, died March 24 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo. He leaves behind a wife, three month old twin daughters, his parents, and a brother.

Lance Cpl. Kenneth E. Cochran, 20, of Wilder, Idaho died Jan 15 conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan. Ken graduated Parma High School in 2010 where he was well liked and admired by his classmates. Kenny joined the Marine Corps Aug. 30, 2010. He arrived on Okinawa May 27, 2010 and deployed to Afghanistan Nov. 13, 2011 serveing as a water support technician. His awards include, the NATO-International Security Assistance Force Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Sgt. Ryan D. Sharp, 28, of Idaho Falls, Idaho died Dec. 3, at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds suffered Nov. 21 at Kandahar province, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. He joined the Army in October 2002 as an armored crew member. He arrived at Fort Riley in April 2006. This was his third deployment. His awards include the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the Combat Action Badge.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2011, at the Idaho Falls LDS Eagle Rock Stake Center, 2020 South Charlotte Drive, with Bishop Bruce Machen of the Idaho Falls 39th Ward officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.

Sgt. Nathan R. Beyers, 24, of Littleton, Colo., died July 7 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked their convoy using an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to 145th Brigade Support Battalion, 116th Cavalry Heavy Brigade Combat Team, Post Falls, Idaho. He leaves his wife Vanessa, and a daughter Ella Jo, his father and stepmother, Timothy and Sonja Beyers, his mother, Natalie Bittner, two siblings, Tyler Beyers and Caelyne Bittner. Beyers was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Nick died at age 20 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his convoy using an improvised explosive device. Pfc. Robert J. Near of Nampa, Idaho is a 2007 Granger High School graduate. He was deployed to Afghanistan in March of 2010 and was due to return home within a few weeks. He leaves his father Dale Near, a brother, Kyle Scott, and three sisters, Jennifer Amen, Teddy and Arial Scott, among others. He died at age 21 at Kandahar, Afghanistan. Lance Cpl. Cody A. Roberts of Boise, Idaho graduated from Centennial High School in 2006 where he was active in wrestling and football throughout high school. Although he spent the majority of his time in Magic Valley, he also stayed briefly in Kentucky and Alaska until moving to Meridian his sophomore year. Three months following graduation he joined the Marine Corps. He would serve overseas tours in Cuba, and Saudi Arabia. His awards include, the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on Dec. 1, 2009. Cody met his future wife, Ashleigh when he was stationed at Camp Allen and the couple married on June 13, 2009. The following year they welcomed the birth of a son. He leaves his wife Ashleigh, his son Colten, his mother, Nikee Kramer Roberts, his father and stepmother, Jeff and Christee Roberts, two sisters Kayla and Samantha, a brother Justice. He died at age 22 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
