Spc. Junot M. L. Cochilus
Spc. Junot M. L. Cochilus, 34, of Charlotte, N.C., died May 2 in Logar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y. Cochilus was a combat engineer. He joined the Army in March 2010. After training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, he arrived at Fort Drum in July 2011 and deployed with his unit in October 2011. His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, the NATO Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Action Badge.

Staff Sgt. Thomas K. Fogarty, 30, of Alameda, Calif., died May 6, in Ahmad-Kheyl, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 509th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He joined the Army in January 2004. He was stationed at the Alaska base in January, and left for Afghanistan three months later.
Sgt. John P. Huling, 25, of West Chester, Ohio, died May 6 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Known best as, J.P., he attended St. Michael School in Sharonville before continuing his private Catholic school education at Moeller in Montgomery. JP enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2006. He deployed to Iraq in 2007. He was serving his second tour of duty. He re-enlisted after serving in Iraq. His awards include the Purple Heart, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
Master Sgt. Gregory L. Childs, 38, Warren, Ark., died May 4, in Kabul, Afghanistan. Childs is assigned to Defense Logistics Agency, Fort Belvoir, Va.
Staff Sgt. Zachary H. Hargrove, 32, of Wichita, Kan., died May 3 in Bagram, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 84th Explosive Ordnance Disposal, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. He joined the Army in September 1998. He was assigned to Fort Riley in August 2008. Hargrove was a wheeled vehicle mechanic assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 84th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion, 1st Infantry Division which is currently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This was Hargrove’s fourth combat deployment. He served three previous tours to Iraq, including one with the 1st Infantry Division Headquarters in 2010. This was his first deployment to Afghanistan. His awards include six Army Commendation Medals, six Army Achievement Medals, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, and the NATO Medal.

Sgt. Nicholas M. Dickhut, 23, of Rochester, Minn., died April 30 in Zharay, Afghanistan, from wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. Dickhut graduated from Stewartville High School. He studied at Rochester Community and Technical College and worked as a supervisor at Office Max before enlisting in the Army. Prior to his tour of duty in Afghanistan, Dickhut also had served in Iraq from July through December of 2009. Dickhut’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
Master Sgt. Scott E. Pruitt, 38, of Gautier, Miss., died April 28 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Scott graduated in 1992 from Pascagoula High School. He joined the Marine Corps in June 1993 and was a financial analyst, according to officials at Camp Pendleton. Pruitt became a master sergeant in January 2010, and was listed as the comptroller chief for the I Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group. His enlistment was scheduled to end in June 2013. He was engaged to be married. Among his awards are the Purple Heart, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
