Staff Sgt Morgan Deshawn Kennon
Birth: August 4, 1980 – Memphis, Tennessee
Died: November 7, 2003 – Mosul, Iraq
Staff Sgt Kennon was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was guarding a bank when his position came under rocket-propelled grenade attack. Kennon was fatally wounded during this attack and died immediately of blunt force trauma while trying to protect fellow soldiers. Morgan, nicknamed ‘Angel’, joined the Army in 1998 immediately after high school to earn money for college and deployed with his unit to Iraq in February. His specialty in the Army was as a nuclear, biological and chemical specialist. He hoped one day to become a lawyer. Morgan was a smart, friendly man who loved the Army, God, and doted on his mother.
