Staff Sgt Michael David Prieto-Cardenaz

Died: February 20, 2010 in Chapa Dara, Kunar province, Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Michael David P. Cardenaz of Corona, California graduated from Corona High School in 1998 where he participated on the wrestling and football teams. He deployed to Afghanistan in June of 2009 He had previously served two deployments in Iraq and two in the Balkans. His awards include, the Soldier’s Medal, the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal for Valor. He leaves his wife, Macarena, five, children, Jason, Jasmine, Mariella, Mariliz and Marianna, his parents, Miguel and Rosellen Cardenaz, three sisters, Priscilla, Sandra and Monica, and a brother, Steven. He died at age 29 in Chapa Dara, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with rocket-propelled grenades.
