Sgt Michael Dwayne Acklin II

Died: November 15, 2003 in Mosul, Iraq
Sgt. Michael D. Acklin II of Louisville, Kentucky is a graduate of Western High School. Best known as Mikie to family and friends, his military career began when he enlisted in the United States Army in 1998. He was following a family tradition of military service; his great-grandfather served in World War II and his grandfather served in the Korean War. In 2003, Michael re-enlisted and was sent to Iraq in March of 2003. He was a quiet man who dreamed of joining the ministry and hoped to attend Bible college after the Army. He is the son of Dorothy M Johnson and Michael Acklin, Sr. He was killed at age 25 when two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters crashed in Mosul, Iraq. Michael was posthumously awarded the the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
