Sgt Soto was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas. He died of wounds sustained near Tallil when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Josh graduated in 2002 from Avenal High School where he played basketball and football. In November 2002, he enlisted in the Army and became an infantryman. Josh was on his third deployment when he was killed and had been awarded a Purple Heart, the Army’s commendation medal, and posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart (2).
