Sgt First Class Gonzalez was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, South Camp Vilseck, Germany as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle driver. He was killed when his armored vehicle was blown up by a homemade bomb as he led a patrol.
