Pfc Johnson was assigned to 299th Engineer Battalion, 4th Infantry Division (Mech), Fort Hood, Texas. He was on patrol when his vehicle hit a landmine. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Burial: Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York – Section R, Site 2865G
